Taylor performs Messiaen’s Quartet for Begbie-November 9 at 7:30pm

Taylor University will welcome Jeremy Begbie by performing Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” The music department will perform on November 9 at 7:30 pm at the Recital Hall.

Charis: Boundary Crossings

Charis (from the Greek for gift or grace) is an international traveling art exhibit of 40-45 works by 7 Asian and 7 North American artists. Emphasizing interaction and experience, the artwork includes paintings, sculptures, assemblage, fiber constructions, installation, and video projections.

A 100 page color catalogue has been published in conjunction with the exhibit, and can be bought online by clicking here.

Artists Emmanuel Garibay and Roger Feldman will be on the Taylor Campus, along with Jeremy Begbie, renowned expert on theology and the arts, and Stefan Eicher, Taylor University alum and founder of Reflection Gallery in New Delhi. One of the sponsors, Joan Gilkinson, will also have her non-western art collection showcased at Taylor University, in the Alspaugh Dining Room.

One key opportunity for the community from this exhibit is the construction of a large-scale interactive piece by Charis artist Roger Feldman. Roger calls his work an “experiential metaphor” and he will collaborate with students, faculty, and community members from October 26 to November 1 to create Water and Oil, a work about economic and cultural conflicts in society, from his Pivots collection. Other students will be working to create a documentary to capture Taylor’s response to this artistic expression, collaboration, and creation. Many other classes and students will also be working with these special guests on various projects.

The exhibit will travel to 8-10 venues across North America before heading to Asia in 2012.
